Essie Debuts Pastel Polishes

And so the parade of pastel product launches continues. Today, in new spring debuts, we bring you the latest offering from Essie Weingarten, whose penchant for candy-colored lacquers far precedes her; we have many a friend who has sworn undying loyalty to Essie’s Mademoiselle (a “grown-up” pink) and clamored over her Mint Candy Apple, the only sea foam green that even came close to Peter Philips’ Jade for Chanel when it launched two years ago. This time around, Weingarten has mixed lights and brights as only she can. Navigate Her is a creamy muted lime; Tour de Finance is a punchy, toned-down fuchsia; Orange, It’s Obvious is, well, obvious; To Buy or Not to Buy is a classic shimmery lilac; and Ole Caliente is a totally eye-catching watermelon red, with just the right amount of coral and rose undertones. But the surprise hit in the collection is A Crewed Interest, as far as we’re concerned. The pink-y peach varnish is not something we would typically gravitate toward, as it looks like a run-of-the-mill ballet slipper-like hue in the bottle. But it wears like a super-cool, super-retro opaque pink that resembles a sixties-era neutral, giving it both a fun—and clean—feel. We’ve made a pledge to wear only nude, red, and darker bordeaux lacquers this season (we’re all about keeping it classic right now), but we might have to make an exception for this one.
